Diversity in Science:
Kate Hruby Discusses Buoyancy!

I knew as a kid that I wanted to learn as much as I could about the world, so once I grew up I went about this in two ways: school and exploring! I have a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and a master’s degree in earth science (but really I studied glaciers and physics for a couple years). During my school years, I also got my Merchant Mariner Credential (which is kind of like a fancy drivers license for boats). Now, I sail around Washington State and British Columbia, searching for whales, monitoring water quality, checking out tiny ocean creatures called plankton, and using the sailboat as a classroom to spew glacier, geology, and oceanography funfacts. When I’m not floating around on the ocean, I draw nerdy science cartoons! You can check out my work at goforthandscience.com.
